Data handling

Privacy

This notice explains what Failure Files stores when you use a member account. It is a working draft and may be updated.

What we store

  • Your account: email address, a securely hashed password, and whether your email has been verified.
  • Your business profile: company name, optional job role, when you accepted the terms, and your newsletter choice.
  • Your searches: each search you submit (the search text and any SIC code), a monthly count used for your allowance, and a copy of the results returned, so that paging through them doesn't use another search.
  • Premium requests: if you request premium access, the date of your request.

Before you verify your email, the company and role you typed at sign-up are kept only in your browser on this device, then saved to your account once you're verified.

Why

To run the service: to verify that members are real business users, enforce search allowances, show you your results, and respond to premium requests. We don't sell member data.

Newsletter

The FoodOnomics newsletter is optional and separate from your account. It is off unless you tick the box, and you can use Failure Files without it.

Data about companies and creditors

Search results are drawn from public filings at Companies House about insolvent companies and the creditors named in them. See the methodology.

Customer lists

Customer list (CSV) matching is coming soon and is switched off. No customer list can be uploaded or checked at the moment.
