How this is built
Methodology
Failure Files is business intelligence drawn from public filings. It is not a credit rating, a credit score or a prediction.
Sources
Company identity (number, name, SIC codes) comes from Companies House. Creditor lines come from documents filed at Companies House for insolvent UK food and drink companies — principally statements of affairs, which list creditors and the amounts claimed. The Gazette is our reference point for formal insolvency notices.
Automated extraction — unverified
Creditor names, amounts, claim types and page numbers are read automatically (OCR) from the filed documents. Scanned filings are often poor quality, so names can be misread and amounts mis-transcribed. Every result is labelled Unverified extraction — check the original filing and links to the filing it came from, with the page number where available.
What a stated claim means
The amount shown is the claim as stated in the filing. It is not a proven, admitted or adjudicated debt, and it tells you nothing about the creditor's own financial position.
Coverage
Coverage is partial: only filings we have processed so far are searchable, and new filings are added over time. A search with no result means we hold no record in our current coverage — never that a business is safe to trade with. Each search returns at most 100 lines; refine broad searches.
Searching
Searches match part of the failed company's name, the creditor's name or the company number, optionally limited to a SIC code. Members on the free plan have 5 searches a calendar month (UK time); premium members have 100. A submitted search counts even if nothing is found; moving between result pages, invalid input and failed searches do not.
Customer list (CSV) matching is coming soon and is not currently available.
Corrections
If a result is wrong — a misread name, a mis-transcribed amount — email hello@foodonomics.co.uk with the company number and filing. See also the terms of use.
